Artist: Oscar Törnå
Title: Landscape near Grez-sur-Loing
Object type: Painting
Description: Oscar Törnå went to France in the 1870s and was immediately enthralled by the new plein-air painting. He was one of the first Swedes who joined the artist colony in Grez-sur-Loing. In 1876-1877, he made numerous paintings of the countryside around Grez. This is one of them, signed September 1876. Törnå was also instrumental in spreading the new plein-air painting in Sweden. The link to Sweden is demonstrated in this work – after returning to Sweden, he painted a landscape from Skedevi in the province of Östergötland on the back of the canvas.
